Can you leave snow chains on tires overnight or longer?

Might be moving to snow country. If chains are required for all driving, can you leave them on overnight or for several days without damaging the tires.
The car would be left outside, overnight on a gravel bed parking area. . . probably covered with snow.

Why does my 2003 Ford Focus ZX3 have so much less road noise when the snow tires are on it?

I use the tires that came with the car ( performance tires ) from May to October and then I switch to snow tires from October to May. Last May when I switched I noticed a loudness when I was going 45 to 50 mph and now that the snows are back on it is ok. Thanks for any help.
Edit// Thanks Ryan but the tires are still good. Everytime the tire place swaps them out,they check the tread.
