Snow Chains

I roll à Mammoth next week for a voyage of ski. My car n' does not have the dégagement sufficient one for the chaînes of snow tires. Are chaînes which will be nécessaires s' it ya a chance " petit" of snow, or must they compose enough with roads for normal tires of anything d' a véritable tempête?

The drive is usually fine, its when you get there that you will need chains.

If there is snow at all you are required chains, or they will tell you to turn back. You don’t have the option of trying to have go at it without chains, the cops will make you turn around.

Chains are mandatory during most heavy snow storms. There is a over head sign as you approach the town of Bishop that will give the road conditions in the mountain. Typically the chain control checkpoint will be just past Hwy 205 (the road to Mammoth), but if the sign at Bishop says the chain control is closer than “43 miles ahead” you won’t be going to Mammoth with out them. The CHP will turn you back. Just before departing call the toll free 24 hour Caltrans highway information hot line for the current road conditions at 1-800-427-6723.
Just a tip. If you’re going up for the weekend, on Friday nights the CHP likes to sit between the towns of Big Pine, and Bishop nailing speeders doing to Mammoth.
